Basic Hard Metals Course


Traditional Basic Hard Metal Craft (a City & Guilds Accredited Programme)

 

This is an introductory course for those with little or no experience of hard metal work. It covers basic techniques for shaping and creating effective joints between sheets of hard metal.

 

CITB Registered Candidates are eligible to claim the completion grant of Tier 3 (£240 2024/25)

This course includes the following elements:

  • Dog ear corner

  • Soldered joints

  • External corner soldered (2-techniques)

  • Clipping

  • Standing seam welted end

  • Saddle piece

  • Dog tooth end

  • Swept seam

  • Swept abutment

  • Pinched seam

  • Welted verge

  • Neoprene expansion joint

  • Double lock welt

  • Single lock welt

  • Riveted joint

  • Eaves apron trim

Each element is checked to ensure quality and conformity to specification and best practice.

At the end of the candidates are formally assessed on forming a Pinched seam.
